Salies de Béarn is a pretty typical Béarn village with winding lanes, flower-decked houses and brightly painted woodwork set on the river Salies also has a salt spa, open air pool, good local restaurants, bars, market, shops and local Bearn wine. (6 miles away)

Orthez is a busy market town on the Gave de Pau, with a beautiful old bridge still used today. Gaston VII of Moncade chose it as his capital and fortified it, though little remains now of his work. It remained the capital city until the 15th century. There are still a number of lovely old houses that can be found in the old streets and that testify to the town's long status as an important commercial centre. (9 miles away)

Biarritz established itself as a popular coastal resort in the mid-19th century when Napolean III and his wife Eugenie used to spend their summers here. Since then it has proved popular not only with royalty but also with Europe's rich and famous. Biarritz has some of the best surf in the world and great beaches such as La Grande Plage which is dotted with striped bathing tents. (45 mins away).
